Cycle West is an Auckland Council led project to develop cycling opportunities for the West Auckland community. Our aim is ultimately, to increase the number of residents choosing to cycle for sport, recreation or transport. It includes, but is not limited to, programmes such as Learn to Ride (developed by Bike NZ), bike skills, BMX, mountain bike and road cycling.
A key component of this project is to develop Te Rangi Hiroa / Birdwood Reserve as a regional hub for biking, catering for a range of skills, ages and activities. Birdwood Reserve is a Council owned recreation reserve in the urban catchment of Auckland Council. Currently, there are a number of sport and recreation clubs utilising parts of the Reserve including the Waitakere BMX Club. Funding has been secured to contribute to the development of a ‘bike hub’ which will include mountain bike tracks and upgrades to the existing BMX track, and a skill park. It will also be the base for any bike sports in the West, and is ideally located as a base point for road cycling in the Waitakere Ranges.
Registrations are essential.
